Walk along Whitemans
Well this week our walk in Whitemans goes a bit different as we take The Werillyiup Trail which takes in horse swamp, this is a real easy walk which is mainly around the swamp. It's only just over 2.5km loop starting at the Dog Park car park in Mussel Pool, and it's great to know that there is still some wildlife refuge in a town that is getting more houses every day.
There's a you-beaut bird hide on the western edge of the Swamp which allows you an outstanding view of the antics of the wetland birds, and is also an ideal spot to see kangaroos grazing on the swamp fringes. but not much happening here today, except for the two wombats sitting in the hide.
During different times of the year you can either have a bunch of nice beaut flowers popping up in the wetlands, or during summer it's just dry hard and brown and easier for the roo's to get a drink.
There's also a nice bird watching platform so you can watch the wildlife from above, which is pretty cool to just sit back and let your mind wonder over these wonderful wetlands.
After we finished the walk there was another not to far so we had a stroll along that one, which is the The Goo Lorto Trail which is about 3 kilometers. So we went along this walk till we found this old ripper windmill, now anyone who knows me will know I just love old farm machinery and windmills are on the top of the list.
The trail follows Bennett Brook through partially cleared cattle-grazing farmland, and meanders under groves of flooded gums on the banks of the Brook. One one part we came along this old trainline which we followed, and then turned around and walked back towards the carpark. We enjoyed the walk and it was overcast so it wasn't that hot, all in all and enjoyable walk in the bush...
