The new Perth Stadium
Our very first time going to Perth's new Stadium at the swampy fields of Burswood, and my hopes were pretty big as this piece of friggin' clement cost us bloody heaps.
But as soon as we stepped inside we just couldn't believe how massive and impressive this stadium really is, fairdinkum it's a bloody ripper and it has a feeling like the Great Colosseum!
This $1.5 billion Australian architect-ed Philip Cox designed stadium, that sits on the picturesque Swan River is bloody spot on. It's just an amazing bunch of chairs... On match days the place will cater for up to 60,000 sandgropers crikey which is the third-biggest capacity of any stadium in the country, all hungry for a Mrs Macs pie and will wash it down with a Gage road beer both made in West aussie.
Sarah's mascot fyfie even came to the match to watch the sheilahs WAFL, who were going to be the first aussie rules match to be played at the new stadium. Not only was it a ripper of a day but the turn out was pretty amazing, as a staggering record crowd of 41,975 Sandgropers came to watch Fremantle take on Collingwood and break an 89-year old record.
The match was a bloody ripper as Collingwood kicked the first two goals, but Fremantle dominated from that point on to secure the 6.4 (40) to 4.3 (27) win. This place is just amazing to watch a footy game with the lights and music sound system just out of this world, as the atmosphere of the crowd going off is one to be heard and will give the home team a real home advantage!
But all good things have to come to an end and with that we had a little walkabout around the place before saying our goodbyes, here are some of the grounds stats... The playing surface is 165 m (541 ft) long and 130 m (430 ft) wide, which is a ripper 5 meters longer than the world famous Melbourne Cricket Ground. There are two 340 m2 (3,700 sq ft) screens on either end of the stadium, which are crystal clear and the lightweight fabric roof will cover 85% of seats so most of us won't get pissed on from a great height.
On the way home we crossed the swan river (Hence the swans) and had a last look at this beaut stadium, fairdinkum I give it a bloody ripper thumbs up! We had a beaut night watching the game, and the place itself was just unbelievable and hopefully we will be able to see a lot more matches over the years to come.
