Tander wins with the last HOLDEN

Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander have delivered Holden the ultimate farewell at Mount Panorama, in winning the last ever race for Holden, Tander won his fifth Bathurst and allowed Holden to sadly disappear from Australian racing forever as a Winner!

Who has won Bathurst 1000 the most Ford or Holden you might ask? Well as it stands right now it is Holden with 34 overall victories, and Ford coming in second with 21.

Kiwi driver Van Gisbergen was overwhelmed by the Holden support from the fans,'This is the people’s one (Holden farewell). You see how much it means to people', he said.

'How many Holden flags are around this weekend? We lost count of how many we signed. It was epic, the brand means so much to people and to get the result like this, it’s an honour. The last couple of laps I was trying to keep focus but it was a pretty big distraction (all the Holden fans and flags).'

The 2022 Bathurst 1000

'No words right now, can’t really believe it to be honest with you,' Tander said post-race.

'The guys did such a great job.

Shane at the end of the race, how he can do that just punch out laps like that. Seriously impressive to watch. Such an honour to be part of this. The last ever Commodore here at Bathurst, that’ll sink in a little bit later – can’t believe it.'

It’s the second time in three years the van Gisbergen and Tander combination has reigning supreme on the mountain. Remarkably, the 2022 winning car had the same chassis used when the duo claimed the Great Race in 2020.

Peter Brock is still undisputedly the only King of the Mountain with an unsurpassed 9 wins at the Bathurst 1000, a race that become known as his race.

It's sad to think we will never see the Holden flag again flying, as yours truly grew up as a kiddy watching and admiring the Holden brand. I'm sure around the racetracks of Australia well see it flying, as anyone who calls themselves aussie would understand how much that symbol means to many of our race fans. but to think we will never see another Holden race car is a very sad thought, yes there will be other race cars coming into the competition but there not a HOLDEN.

What a beautiful race-car and what a shame its been sent away into the history books forever, only ever to be found again in racing museums but I suppose that's life...

GOODBYE OLD FRIEND
