Onecatstoomany

Well every now and again something catches me eye and I just can't get it out of my head, and that happen just the other day when yours truly picked up the local paper. Just by chance I opened the Racing section of the 'Form guide', and noticed a few funny horse names like 'NELLIE GOT THERE', 'OUR OLD FELLA' (both from Belmont Park) and 'VOLKSWAGIN' which was racing at Sandown-Lakeside. And another one called 'HANDBAG' (racing at Ipswich) which if it doesn't get up and win soon, it might just become one! Well okay fairdinkum that wouldn't happen....you should get at least twenty handbags out of one horse!

And their were more ripper names like a greyhound called 'DEWANA BE QUICK', who was racing in Mandurah Greyhounds. And if your only good enough to race in Mandurah dogs, you'll wanna be quick or you'd end up at the local Mandurah Chinese take-away!

But their were more rippers like 'UNDERTHEINFLUENCE', and this trotter called 'BAKERANDTHEFATMAN' which both raced on the weekend at Gloucester Park. How on earth can you come up with a name like THAT! By the way it also ran like a fatman and came in last, but with a record of 18 wins from 78 races it's had a pretty good run. But the one horse that really caught my eye was a little filly (it's always the filly's hay), who was racing at Rosehill and goes by the ripper name ONECATSTOOMANY.

Now could you name a horse a better name then that..... well okay you could name it something like BETTERBEQUICKERTHENACHINESECOOK maybe a bit to long hay, what about  SWEETN'SOUR.... okay I might have this fascination about horses on the menu at Chinese restaurants but AM I WONG! ha,ha,ha sorry I quack myself up sometimes. Hay while where picking on chinese food why not name the horse ONECATSNOTENOUTH. Okay enough with the jokes but what a beaut name hay, and it's from my-neck-of-the-woods as it's a Newcastle filly. It's trained by Newcastle x-jockey come legend trainer Alan Scorse from his Broadmeadow stables, now heres a little story for ya....

'When Scorse was a leading jockey around the Newcastle area he suffered a bad tear in the tendon of his left arm, which threatened to end the jockeys career. But Scorse made it back to the track and was keen to ride a winner to get him going again. That's where owner Bentata, for whom Scorse had ridden before, had horses with trainer Gordon "Bear" Benson at Newcastle. He asked the trainer to put Scorse on one of his gallopers which had a good chance of victory. The horse Two Dollars, won and when Scorse gave up riding and started training the owner, said he would try to give him another winner - this time to give him a kick along in his new role. It took a while but Bentata was good to his word, and gave the beautiful black filly Onecatstoomany to him to train'. go you good thing!
