A Day trip to old Sydney Town

Well each time we come to Toronto we try to have a trip down to Sydney mainly so when we come home we can appreciate our quiet little Ellenbrook, and also for the opportunity to see some of Australia's greatest icons...

Like Australia's iconic legendary bird 'The Bin Chicken' also known as a white Ibis, as you can see some person has also tagged this one with a bistro ticket ha, ha.

I agree with my niece Sops who reckons that we should replace the emu with a bin chicken on the coat of arms, why not if we can spend 400 million dollars on a yes/No vote then why not!

After a nice walk down from the train station to Darling Harbor we hopped on a Sydney harbor ferry, which was named after legendary eye doctor and all round beaut bloke Fred Hollows.

Fairdinkum if you ever pop into Sydney for a trip always hop on a Sydney ferry and do a ride around the Harbor, and it will give you a great view of the Grand old girl... The old coat hanger.

Instead of going up into the Blue Mountains to see the three sisters, I got to see them in Sydney ha, ha...

Yours truly with my mob of boys.... The Boys, Chase, Harrison, Oscar and Jacko.

And again with another grand old lady behind us and she's about the same age as me ha, ha... crikey.

And now to do something I have never done before... Walk across the legendary Sydney Harbor Bridge.

My poor old knees were already sore and we had only walked up the bloody stairs, but I was determined to give this a good go. As you can see there's chook wire to stop people from trying to swan dive over the side, as for me I was more then happy to see a big fence between me and a watery death!

And yes we made it over to the North side before having to walk back across, and here is just a few things about the legendary coat Hanger. The Sydney Harbor Bridge is the world's largest steel arch bridge, totaling 1,149 meters. She took eight years to build and weighs 52,000 tonnes, It has around 6 million rivets, which means there are more rivets on the Bridge than there are people in Sydney, and it takes about twenty minutes to walk across the old girl.

Now after all that walking we had to replenish our bodies with something that would hit the spot, and I'm sorry but water just wasn't going to hit the spot. So after a few wrong turns and up and down some alley ways we found a nice little watering hole, located in the world famous 'The Rocks' we came upon The Glenmore. She has been a Sydney icon since 1921 mainly because of it's old English colonial charm and character. The current Glenmore Hotel was built by Tooth and Co in 1921 however it was originally constructed on the other side of Cumberland street in the 1880's, it had to be moved to it's current sight when they started building the Harbour Bridge which started a couple years after the pub was moved.

Jacko inside The Glenmore getting us a few beers as all good son's should.

Harry ordering us a chicken Parmy and chips as all good son's should.

Then after washing down a bloody good feed with an equally beaut beer we headed towards Sydney train station, and as we came around the corner we made eye contact with yet another Sydney icon The Australian Hotel. Now how could you just walk passed this Grand old girl built back in 1914 with her two storeyness, designed in an Italianate style with a brick exterior and iron-clad roof without just having a quick look inside hay...

And yes with my arm twisted behind my back we had another beaut tasting cold beer inside this heritage-listed national treasure, this Pub is renowned for it's gourmet pizzas, crowd favorites are the Coat of Arms Pizza, made with emu and kangaroo, and the Saltwater Crocodile Pizza.

So after 19 thousand bloody steps, a ferry ride and a couple of Pubs that was about it for our trip around Sydney town, we then had a lazy walk back to the train station and then a nice ride back to Fassifern train station and back home...

Yes back home a saying that I've said all my life, but what I didn't know then... but it was going to be one of the last times I will ever get to say it...

What happens when your sister lets you use her phone well the first thing is you have a look at it, like Jessie n' the big fella Calvin did ha, ha....

Then you have the legendry happy smile....

Then the traditional thumbs up in another photo, in this case Jacko went a bit further with the phone image..

But there's the old saying... 'There's always one' and in this case it was yours truly, who gave her the dumbass photo ha, ha...
