Sculptures by the sea
Well it was that time of year again where I chuck all the kiddies into the Tarrago, and head to the beach of Cottesloe for the yearly event of 'Sculptures by the sea'.
Our first sculpture we had a gander at was name 'Re:Generation' which i'd like to call 'The misses', as she always reckons she has eyes in the back of her head.
Now here's a good one there's nothing better then a nice hunk of steel, it's by artist Jörg Plickat and it's called 'Fragmented Future'
This one was made out of cast bronze and is called P.O.P, the Sculptor is from Slovakia, and I've got no idea what it is but it does look pretty cool.
This one looks pretty good it's made by Harrie Fasher, and is called 'Boxed'. Made out of steel and Brass and at least you can see what it is, it's a horse that is in a box. Now the artist say's BOXED: 'Questions contemporary notion of freedom and choice. Gazing down at the viewer the sculpture explores the intimidatory scale and strength of the horse alongside the fragility of its predicament'. I couldn't of said it better myself.
This looks spot-on it was made by Japanese artist Yoshio Nitta, and it's called 'Personal Castle – Defence, Advance, Hope'. I reckon it would look pretty cool in the shed.
This one is called 'Kakashi'
This one was my favorite and is named 'A Burden' by artists Suzie Bleach & Andrew Townsend who work collaboratively in their studio-workshop at Braidwood NSW. They create assemblages of welded and forged steel incorporating salvaged materials and objects in the form of familiar animal subjects.
This one was actually brought by Cottesloe so you'll see it somewhere around the cott beach, and is named 'Golden Section' by an English bloke Ivan Black. Personally I wished they brought the horse but I'm no artist hay.
This is by Benjamin Storch 'Undulation'... yeah right.
Here's the kiddies with 'Sea Sponges' now here's one I reckon I might know about, and it looks pretty spot-on.
This ones named 'Skin Cube' which was made by Louise Sparre and from a distance looks okay, but as you read about it she tells us that it's photos of parts of her skin... yuck! You could call it the hannibal lecter cube ha,ha. Then we came to this one and now here's one I can relate too, it's a camper-van covered entirely in tin foil named 'homeless carapace'. Personally I'd prefer it driving across the Nularbor but next to the beach is just as good, but keep the tin foil for the fish on the fire.
And our last sculpture was named 'Pocono Bud' and made by Tang-Wei Hsu, who was inspired by the Pocono Mountains plant life in Pennsylvania USA. And that was our day out in Cottesloe beach and afterwards we popped to Port Beach for a swim... there was a lot less people there and after a nice feed we were back to the bush before you knew it.
